MUMBAI: The
Maharashtra government on Monday announced a
toll waiver for private vehicles plying towards
Konkan for
Ganesh Chaturthi.
The waiver will be implemented two days prior to the 10-day festival – which falls on September 10 – and two days after it.
Ahead of the festive season, a meeting was held between the public works department, home department and district administration to ensure that the journey into Konkan for the devotees is smooth.
Minister Eknath Shinde said for the waiver, motorists will have to register their details, at the toll booth and they will be issued a sticker that will allow them to pass all the toll booths without paying the toll.
More manpower will have to be deputed at the toll booths on different highways like Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Goa, Pune-Satara, etc for the assistance of the commuters.
Shinde has also asked the agencies to ensure work on repairs of these highways is completed in two days. And emergency vehicles like ambulances, quick response vehicles should be available in case of any incident.
