EC seeks law & order report on Murshidabad, South Kolkata
Kolkata: The Election Commission (EC) has asked for a report from the state administration on the law and order situation in the district of Murshidabad and South Kolkata as bypolls will be held in Samserganj, Jangipur and Murshidabad assembly seats on September 30. The EC will hold a meeting with the CEO and state officials soon to set up a plan for security arrangements during the polls.

Already, there has been an embargo on the release of the advertisements with pictures of chief minister Mamata Banerjee as she is a candidate from Bhawanipore, an EC official said.
However, he said that the state government can only release some special advertisements for any particular day or occasion, but before release of the advertisements the CEO has to clear it. Moreover, the EC official said that ministers cannot combine their official visits with the bypoll campaign.
