Heavy rain forecast in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar; IMD issues orange and yellow alert in various Maharashtra districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar region till September 10.

MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar region till September 10.
The IMD has issued an orange alert in Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra for the next three days.
Nasik, Pune, Satara, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingli, Nanded and Kolhapur districts have been put on orange alert with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on Tuesday.

Fisherman have been prohibited from venturing into the sea and other water bodies.
Authorities have asked citizens to remain alert and keep sufficient stock of essential items at home in the wake of heavy rainfall prediction by the Regional Meteorological Centre for the Konkan region over the next three days.
Shubhangi Bhute, scientist, IMD, said, “In 2-3 days, north Konkan (includes Mumbai, Thane) is expected to witness heavy rain. This is due to a low pressure area which lies over north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh coasts.”

The authorities have also asked people residing near the banks of rivers to stay alert and shift to safer places if the water level rises in their areas.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Tuesday and Thursday, while heavy to very heavy rain is predicted on Wednesday under an orange alert.
Mumbai city has received 4.41 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8am on Tuesday. The eastern suburbs recorded 5.16 mm and western suburbs recorded 5.51 mm of rainfall, as per Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Meanwhile, a high tide of 4.48 metres is expected at 12:16 pm in Mumbai on Tuesday.
