Kerala logs over 30,000 new Covid cases, 181 deaths

Over 30,000 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were reported in the state in the past 24 hours with a test positivity rate (TPR) of 17.63%.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 30,000 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were reported in the state in the past 24 hours with a test positivity rate (TPR) of 17.63%.
The number of local bodies which have a weekly infection population ratio (WIPR) of more than 7% has also increased. There are over 4,000 such wards in 794 local bodies in the state.
The state recorded 30,196 positive cases as 1,71,295 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

As many as 181 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid-19, taking the related death toll in the state to 22,002. At the same time, 27,579 patients have recovered from the disease and at present there are 2,39,480 patients undergoing treatment. So far, 40,21,456 people have recovered from Coronavirus infection in the state.
Among the new cases reported on Wednesday 28,617 people were infected through local spread. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 1,259 people. There are 130 health care professionals among those infected and 190 people have arrived from outside the state.
Thrissur reported the highest number of cases---3,832, followed by Ernakulam (3,611), Kozhikode (3,058), Thiruvananthapuram (2,900), Kollam (2,717), Malappuram (2,580), Palakkad (2,288), Kottayam (2,214), Alappuzha (1,645), Kannur (1,433), Idukki (1,333), Pathanamthitta (1,181), Wayanad (894) and Kasaragod (510).

The district-wise break-up of patients who tested negative for the disease are as follows: Thiruvananthapuram 1,646, Kollam 2,077, Pathanamthitta 1,191, Alappuzha 1,966, Kottayam 2,198, Idukki 907, Ernakulam 2,648, Thrissur 2,698, Palakkad 2,267, Malappuram 3,019, Kozhikode 3,265, Wayanad 1,222, Kannur 2,003 and Kasaragod 472.
There are a total of 6,08,228 persons presently under observation in various districts of the state of which 5,75,411 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 32,817 in isolation at hospitals.
As per the weekly infection population ratio different wards in 794 local bodies have WIPR of more than 7%. Among them, 692 wards are in the urban area and 3,416 are in the rural area. Strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented in these wards.
