NOIDA: In a hit and run case, a 45-year-old rickshaw driver was allegedly hit by a car near gate number 2 of the Electronic City metro station when he was crossing the road on Tuesday.
The victim allegedly told the driver to drive slow but he (the driver) took offense at the comment. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly ran over the rickshaw puller who has suffered a fracture in his right leg.
According to the family members of rickshaw puller Dileep Kumar, the incident occurred to around 10am on Tuesday when he was crossing the road abutting the Electronic City metro station after parking his rickshaw at a side.
Dileep’s wife Seema told TOI that he saw a speedy blue colour car approached him when he was crossing the road.
“I told the driver to drive slowly but he took offense to the comment and ran over me in a fit of rage and fled the spot. The people around came to my rescue and also noted down the vehicle number,” he said.
While the incident happened on Tuesday, Dileep’s family members told TOI that they could not give a written complaint to the police.
A twitter user by the name of Rakesh Yadav tweeted about the matter to the Noida police, additional commissioner of police (headquarters) and DCP (central Noida) when cops were informed about the issue.
Phase III SHO Vivek Trivedi told TOI that after receiving information, the police contacted the complainant’s family and an FIR has been lodged under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, or the personal safety of others) of the IPC subsequently.
