VADODARA: On the eve of commencement of
Ganpati immersions in the
Navlakhi artificial pond, a crocodile tested the waters first on Saturday! It had to be rescued in the early hours of the day to ensure that immersions took place safely in the pond.
City-based Wildlife Rescue Trust got a call at around 1am on Saturday. Volunteers reached the pond along with forest department officials and found a four-feet crocodile there.
The pond was being filled with water for the immersions when the workers spotted the reptile.
It took the rescuers around three hours to capture it as lights around the pond were not working.
The fire brigade was called which arrived with flood lights to facilitate the rescue.
Two more crocodiles were also spotted near the Jalaram Temple in Karelibaug on Friday night. The reptiles had strayed into the Jaladham Society and had to be rescued by volunteers.
