Rain slams brakes on Noida, Gzb traffic
Noida/Ghaziabad: Flooded streets, choked drains, long queue of vehicles…. Heavy rain on Saturday threw life out of gear once again in Noida and Ghaziabad. Traffic was disrupted on most roads.
At some places, the flooding was so severe that commuters were forced to get off their vehicles and wade through the water.
At the Meerut trisection in Ghaziabad, water accumulated on one side of the roads, forcing vehicles to move on a narrow portion.
“The edges of the roads have anyway been washed away. The vehicles moved slowly because no one could gauge how deep the water-filled craters were. This led to a long snarl,” said Srish Choudhary of Kavi Nagar. RRTS work along the roads, which has rendered much of the stretches unusable, compounded the problem.
Kumar Anupam, a Gyan Khand 2 resident, said, “The road in Shipra Srishti caved in. It not only hampered vehicular movement but also posed a risk to nearby buildings and shops. However, the stretch was barricaded with sand bags by residents to contain the damage.”
Areas in and around Shaheed Nagar New Bus Adda metro station were completely inundated. “I had to pay Rs 150 to an auto driver just to cross the road,” said Sulochana, who took the metro to work.
In Noor Nagar, a buffalo was electrocuted when it came in contact with an electric pole. “It’s unfortunate. Many people pass the area too,” said Shambu Dayal, a resident.
The farmers’ protest site at UP Gate wasn’t spared either. BKU leader Rakesh Tikait was seen sitting on a platform surrounded by knee-deep water.

Ramanand Kushwaha, SP (traffic) in Ghaziabad, said, “We had deployed traffic cops on all stretches. The ones in reserve were also called in. We tried our best, but waterlogging threw life out of gear. Areas such as Mohan Nagar, Bhowpura, the Vasundhara cut and CISF road saw long snarls.”
In Noida, Labour Chowk was one of the worst-affected areas, where the intersection with NH-24 was reduced to a small pool.
People headed for the metro stations in auto-rickshaws were forced to battle knee-deep water. Several vehicles got stranded on the stretch.
The U-turn under the Mahamaya flyover and the areas near Botanical Garden were also inundated.
Ramesh Kumar, who had come to get his second dose of Covid vaccine at the District Hospital in Noida, had to wade through water. “There was water inside the hospital too,” he said.
In Noida Extension, the Kulesra-Surajpur road, which gets flooded even after mild showers, was no exception this time. Traffic on it moved at a snail’s pace. The situation was no different in Haldoni too.
The road near the Sector 52 metro station was also out of bounds and people headed for Hoshiyarpur were stuck for hours. The stretch towards Noida City Centre metro station from Sector 52 was also flooded..
