Gold worth Rs 5.58 lakh seized at Mangaluru airport
Gold worth 5.58 lakh was seized from a passenger at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), Customs have said. The seizure of the metal, weighing 116.4gm, was made on Sunday, they said. The passenger arrived from Dubai, a press release from the Customs said. He tried to smuggle in the gold by concealing it in a cooker, the release said adding that a case was booked against him. Former Union minister Oscar Fernandes dies at 80
Veteran Congress leader, former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes died at a private hospital in Mangaluru on Monday. He was 80, family sources said. Fernandes was hospitalised in July after suffering a fall while doing yoga at his house. He had also undergone a surgery to remove a clot in his brain.
More jabs against Covid-19 given to women than men in 22 Karnataka districts
In 22 districts of Karnataka, more Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered to women than men, according to updates on the Co-Win dashboard as of September 12 (till 11am). Mandya district tops the state in inoculating women, with 54.2 per cent of doses given to them. At 53 per cent, Chamarajanagar is next on the chart, followed by Hassan and Udupi, both over 52 per cent.

Karnataka: MM Hills shrine collects Rs 1.5 crore through sale of devotees’ hair
Devotees who have their heads tonsured as a fulfilment of their pledge to God would scarce be aware of their offering having any monetary value. But the sale of hair thus offered by devotees at the Male Mahdeshwaraswamy temple in Chamarajanagar district has earned the shrine’s management close to Rs 1.5 crore. The Male Mahadeshwara Kshetra Development Authority auctioned the hair offered by devotees over 99 days inviting manual and e-tender.
