COIMBATORE: There was good reception for the mass Covid-19 vaccination drive planned on Sunday in Coimbatore district as 1.25 lakh vaccine doses were administered by 5pm.
The district administration had planned vaccination camps in 1475 centres to inoculate 1.5 lakh people on a single day on Sunday.
The collector GS Sameeran said that 1.25 lakh doses were administered across the district with 2 more hours to go for the camps to wind up.

While they were anticipating such a trend in the morning itself. Neighbouring districts were requested to share the excess doses so that more number of people could be inoculated in case the demand surpasses 1.5 lakh available doses.
“But it didn’t materialise as there is good demand for vaccines in other districts. But there will be a similar drive next Saturday in selected places,” said the collector.
Roughly 3000 staff were pressed in for the mass vaccination drive starting from 7am for 12 hours. Rural areas are given preference where 1016 centres and a total 151 camps in municipal limits besides 308 camps in Coimbatore city limit.
