Facebook Officials from Ireland Help Delhi Police in Preventing Suicide Attempt at Signature Bridge

The Delhi Police Cyber Cell and police teams from three districts were kept on their toes for two hours on Saturday evening after receiving an alert from Facebook officials in Ireland about a probable suicide attempt by a 27-year-old man at Signature Bridge.

The man, who recently dropped out of an MBA programme, posted a statement on Facebook around 3 p.m. on Friday, saying he wishes to end his life due to a failed relationship and studies. The man stated in the article that he was unable to study following the split and had dropped out of college, as well as his dissatisfaction with his lack of employment.

Because the post contained suicidal content, Facebook employees in Ireland flagged it and informed the Indian Embassy, which notified the Delhi Police Cyber Cell.

The man was accused of jumping off the bridge. His brother joined the police hunt and attempted to contact the man on his phone.

Personnel from the three police stations began searching the area around the bridge for the man. They discovered him at Khajoori Chowk, just steps from the bridge, at 5 p.m.

After the relationship ended, the man told police he was “disappointed” and intended to end his life. He resides in Seelampur with his family and is looking for work. According to the police, they consoled him and advised him to return home with his brother. Doctors also offered him advice.
