    West Bengal post-poll violence: CBI registers another case

    The case, which was registered today, was earlier registered by the West Bengal Police at Sitalkuchi at Police Station in Cooch Behar district.

    The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered one new case in connection with post-poll violence in Bengal, in connection with Calcutta High Court’s direction to probe, taking the total number of cases to 35.

    The case, which was registered today, was earlier registered by the West Bengal Police at Sitalkuchi at Police Station in Cooch Behar district.

    According to the complaint, the complainant along with his brother and father went to cast vote at a primary school in Sitalkuchi. “Around 12 miscreants hurled hand bombs at the booth and started firing. One of the 12 miscreants, allegedly opened fire targeting the complainant’s brother,” CBI said.

    It was further alleged that the victim was hit by the bullets and fell down on the floor. The victim was taken to Sitalkuchi hospital where he was declared dead. The FIR was registered against 12 accused in this connection.

    The CBI has so far registered 35 cases, following a Calcutta High Court which directed the agency to probe the heinous crimes like murder and rapes.

    Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's election agent in Nandigram Seikh Sufiyan summoned by CBI over post-poll violence case on Thursday. Sufiyan was a close aid of Mamata Banerjee from the days of Nandigram movement.
