    Final shape to the formation of the Nagaland United Government will be given by Saturday

    Synopsis

    Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said that the decision of the opposition NPF to join the PDA government "on the pretext of Naga political issue to converge into an opposition-less government" was an insult to the people of the state as they fought the 2018 Assembly polls against the BJP.

    With political parties in Nagaland inching closer to form all party government, the parties will be meet on Saturday to give final shape to the formation of the Nagaland United Government (NUG).
    The political parties have earlier stated that they are coming together to resolve the several old naga political issue.

    Opposition party Naga People's Front (NPF) will join the government.

    NPF legislature party leader T.R. Zeliang said that a joint meeting of the ruling People's Democratic Alliance (PDA), NPF and Independent MLAs would be held on September 18 in Kohima to decide about the Nagaland United Government

    Last month Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, NPF resolved that United Government so as to facilitate the "Naga Political Issue" to achieve an honorable and acceptable solution. The decision to accept the Opposition-less United Government has been taken unanimously by the primary People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA)partners namely NDPP and BJP including two Independent MLA's supporting the PDA Government and the modalities to include the principal opposition party, NPF into the Government. Henceforth, the new nomenclature of the Government shall be called Nagaland United Government (NUG).

    The resolution stated,” Whereas the Parties to this resolution are political parties who contested the Nagaland State Assembly Election in the year 2018, wherein NDPP and BJP who are a part of pre poll alliance named as PDA formed the Government after securing majority numbers and NPF took the position of the opposition in the Nagaland State Legislative Assembly. Whereas it has been realized by the political parties that to achieve a peaceful solution to "Naga Political Issue", the efforts and sincerity of the elected representatives towards bringing about settlement to the Naga issue is crucial, and the unity amongst them has to be paramount, so as to expedite and achieve the common goal of peaceful solution to the "Naga Political Issue"

    The resolution stated whereas on July 9, 2021, The Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue, has resolved and affirmed the joint united approach in achieving the solution to the "Naga Political Issue". Whereas on July 19, 2021, NPF's Legislature Party in its meeting has resolved wholeheartedly support and contribute to the Parliamentary Committee on "Naga Political Issue" and in order to facilitate the peaceful settlement and solution to the "Naga Political issue" has unanimously endorsed the concept of Opposition-less Government with PDA.

    In 2015 eight congress MLAs joined the government and later merged with NPF and this became the first all party government.

    The NPF is the single largest party with 25 MLAs in Nagaland in a 60-member assembly. The NDPP led government in Nagaland has 20 members. The BJP which has 12 members is a partner of the government.

    NPF is a partner of BJP led government in Manipur. In 2018 prior to assembly polls in Nagaland, BJP entered with a seat sharing arrangement with NDPP and dumped NPF. Both NPF and BJP ended the 15-year-old alliance.

    Zeliang added, " We wish the Naga issue is settled before Christmas. "

    Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) said that the decision of the opposition NPF to join the PDA government "on the pretext of Naga political issue to converge into an opposition-less government" was an insult to the people of the state as they fought the 2018 Assembly polls against the BJP.

    The NPCC in a statement also alleged that the main purpose for the political matrimony between the NPF and PDA was to "raid the state exchequer and enjoy the perks of office while delaying the implementation of a Naga political solution".
