Days after a temple in Huchchangi in Mysuru district’s Nanjangud taluk was pulled down, the village has turned into a battlefield with members of two families assaulting each other with blunt objects on Wednesday.

BJP MP Pratap Simha and JD(S) MLA GT Devegowda on Sunday opposed the ongoing district administration’s drive to clear places of worship that are built on public land. This comes a day after Congress leader Siddaramaiah opposing the same.
MYSURU: Days after a temple in Huchchangi in Mysuru district’s Nanjangud taluk was pulled down, the village has turned into a battlefield with members of two families assaulting each other with blunt objects on Wednesday.
Superintendent of police R Chethan visited the village and said the situation is normal now. A police force has been stationed there. At least six people injured in the clash have been hospitalised in Mysuru.
Police have detained a few individuals in the incident.
Sources said Huchchangi Mahadevamma temple was razed in the village last week as it was illegally built on public land. The issue took a political turn with leaders questioning the action of authorities. Later, villagers constructed a makeshift temple and placed the deity’s idol there.
