COIMBATORE: Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have seized close to four kg of
gold valued at Rs 1.92 crore from passengers at
Coimbatore airport.
Gadgets and foreign cigarettes worth Rs 1.16 crore were also seized from passengers.
Six passengers, who arrived at the airport from
Sharjah, were arrested.
In a statement, officials said they received a tip-off that a large quantity of gold, gadgets and cigarettes at trade quantities were being smuggled into the city on Monday by passengers.
A team reached the airport and segregated suspicious passengers who arrived here in an
Air Arabia flight.
When they were checked, gold was found concealed in their pants pockets and rectums. They were recovered subsequently and cases were registered.
The total value of the seized items was valued at Rs 3.08 crore.
