A day after resigning from her Rajya Sabha seat, TMC leader Arpita Ghosh said no one forced her to quit and she wanted to devote more time to organisational work of the party.

“When I was elected to the Rajya Sabha, Covid started. Naturally, I was not able to deliver much in this period. Now, I am thinking that I should concentrate more on organisational work. In Kolkata, I can devote more time on theatre, my passion,” the 55-year-old TMC leader told reporters here.

“No one in the party forced me to resign. It is my own decision,” she clarified.

However, TMC sources said Ghosh was told to resign and the party planned to send leaders such as Yashwant Sinha, Saket Gokhale and Kunal Gosh to the Rajya Sabha. Earlier this week, the TMC nominated former Congress leader Sushmita Dev to the Upper House.

West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said, “She was forced to resign by the dictatorial leadership of the Trinamool Congress. It shows the party does not believe in democracy within its organisation.”

Festive offer

Senior TMC leader and minister Firhad Hakim hit out at Ghosh: “Dilip Ghosh should not meddle into the internal affairs of the Trinamool Congress.”

Arpita Ghosh was nominated to the Upper House in March 2020 after she lost from Balurghat in Dakshin Dinajpur district in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
