Odisha: Lecturer held for creating fake education secretary ID, sending email to principal in Sambalpur

A lecturer of Jhasketan Sahu College, Parmanpur, in the district was arrested on Thursday for allegedly creating a fake email account in the name of the commissioner-cum-secretary of the department of higher education to send an email to his college management.

SAMBALPUR: A lecturer of Jhasketan Sahu College, Parmanpur, in the district was arrested on Thursday for allegedly creating a fake email account in the name of the commissioner-cum-secretary of the department of higher education to send an email to his college management.
Paresh Kumar Bhoi, 36, who teaches Economics, was arrested following a complaint lodged by college principal Sandhyarani Mishra.

Police said, “The college on September 6 received the email about corrupt practices having been adopted in the recruitment of clerks on August 26. Posing as the commissioner-cum-secretary of the education department, Bhoi ordered an inquiry into the recruitment process.”
When the principal verified the same with the higher education department, she came to know that the email was a fake one. Following this, she lodged a complaint with the cyber police station here.
Padmasini Meher, the inspector-in-charge of the cyber police station (Sambalpur), said, “Suspecting some malpractice in the appointment of clerks in the college, Bhoi created the fake account to send the email. He used the phone number of a college peon to create it.”
He was picked from his village and booked under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 465 (forgery), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming the reputation) of the IPC besides Section 66 (D) of the IT Act, 2008. Further investigation into the matter is under way, the police said .
Bhoi, the father of a son, is from Jagdalpur under the Padampur sub-division in Bargarh district. He had joined the college around five years ago. He was often assigned computer-related works of the college for his efficiency.
