Amit Tandon: "I don't want to see Mouni Roy's face ever again

Here are the excerpts from the conversation:
You contested in the first season of 'Indian Idol' and it would be fitting to ask you what you felt about 'Indian Idol 12' which ended recently. The show has changed over the years. Your take on this?
Har cheez evolve hoti hai. For me evolution is a part of life. So, it's a part of reality shows as well. What I starkly notice is that judges now come down from the stage and start interacting with the contestants in a personalised manner. Pehle aise nahi tha. Hamare time ka charm hi alag tha. You didn't have so many back stories of participants either, which are seen so often these days.

Talent-wise, it is beautiful. Hamare desh mein talent ki kami nahi hai.
You called it 'evolution'. I would like to contest that word 'evolution'. Let me go back and say that Amit Kumar was told that he had to only praise the contestants. Even Sunidhi had an issue on this. They both have spoken to ETimes TV exclusively...
It happens that a certain judge might like something and you might not.
But no judge criticised...
I was coming to that. Yes, even I see certain performances not being at the optimum level. But at the end of the day, it's all about ratings. I guess, it should be then called a fiction-based reality show. As I said, it's all about getting numbers; decision makers in the show have to act accordingly I guess.
And the audience didn't know or realise until Amit Kumar called it out...
Yes, but did the ratings suffer after that?
Well, there is no denying that there is a lot of talent in our country. But are we tapping it in the right way if the judges are being cheerleaders?
No, we are not. Lekin pehle kya hota tha, they pointed out the smallest of things. I myself felt like saying 'aap stage par aake dekho'. Kai baar aise lagta tha ki unglibaazi karni hai, isliye kar rahe hain.
I get you. What you are saying is that 'Indian Idol' has been exhibiting two extremities of a spectrum when it comes to judging?
Yes. Aur manipulation hota hai. Like, I have seen Pawandeep Rajan being projected as a pahadi but he has been living for the longest time here and singing in other competitions and shows. I just wish they get back to being real.
What exactly do you mean by saying 'manipulation'?
I don't know but a very big singer of our country has said that there are times when songs in reality shows are being pre-recorded. Singers worth their salt come to know if the song was recorded live or in a studio.
How are you shaping up in your singing career? What are your future plans?
I think this is the most interesting time of my career. I haven't done a TV show as an actor since 2 years. Meanwhile, I have completed a full album.
I started a YouTube Channel. Kishore da, Rafi sahab and many others ke gaano ko maine khud ka touch diya hai. I have about 120 songs. I observed that if I went on to act, my singing career used to suffer. I have been learning singing from Mohd Tahirji, Sonu Nigam's teacher. If you put in your effort properly, it works. If you work out without guidance, isn't it likely that you will injure yourself? My teacher is a master. And today, independent music has opened up big time.
Independent music has surged because we have so much talent. Those days are gone when sirf paanch log ga sakte hain aur baaki sab baith jao.
Today's audience wants a buffet in terms of tunes. There's a demand and hence the supply.
What's the plan on the acting front?
I would never look down on TV. I don't want to do anything for just the heck of it. There came a point when I was doing similar roles on TV.
In this whole ruckus of daily life of the last few years, the ties between your family and aap logon ki once-upon-a-time close friend Mouni Roy have been broken. What has happened?
Mouni Roy who?
She is an actress who has done films like 'Gold', 'Romeo Akbar Walter' ('RAW') and 'Brahmastra'...
I usually don't give a s**t and here, I don't give a s**t. I know my wife Ruby won't say this but this took a lot out of her. I don't think I want to see Mouni Roy's face ever again. That girl used my wife. We thought she was genuine but when Ruby was in trouble, Mouni ne uska saath chhod diya. Jaise logon ke chehre badaltey hain, waise hi hua. We are seeing a new face of Mouni Roy; this is not the Mouni we knew. We perceived her as a genuine person, she has hurt Ruby's soul. Miss Roy, you left Ruby when she was at a low zero, today she is bigger than before. Ruby would do so much for everyone, she is so selfless; she would sacrifice her own food. There is no forgiveness for Mouni Roy from our side. I have told Ruby that if she ever accepts back in her life, I won't be around her, main toh phir gaya.
Frankly, there are lot of people whom we realised were not our true friends. They just saw the tamasha- Mercedes bik gayi, clinic bandh ho gaya. But there was no sorrow in their eyes. Everybody wants to have a drink with you, everybody wants to party with you when your chips are high.
The interview will be incomplete if we don't talk about Sidharth Shukla. It was a terribly tragic demise. Did you know him?
I wasn't very close to Sidharth but I knew him. Sometimes, we used to be at a gym around the same time. Ek hatta-katta aadmi agar aise chala jaye, toh it scares the hell out of you. I plan to get a full scan done of myself to see if I am all clear. I feel very sad for Shehnaaz Gill, he was the world to her. Life has become so fickle. It's time to make the most of every moment. Hopefully, it will drill in our heads that we start appreciating the people who care for us and love us.
