A further 5,529 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours – with the disease claiming another 30 lives.

Latest data published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland shows there are 1,037 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals – down 17 from yesterday.

The number of people battling the virus in ICUs across the nation is 87 – down seven over the same period.

The new fatalties mean Scotland's Covid death now stands a 8,349.

However, 10,688 deaths have been registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to Sunday, September 12.

The technical issues that prevented publication of yesterday’s confirmed Covid cases and test positivity have now been resolved.

Since the last update on September 15 (approximately 48-hour period) there have been 5,885 new confirmed positive cases.

In terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, West Dunbartonshire has the highest rate in the country – at 939.6 as of Tuesday, September 14.

Inverclyde has the second-highest infection rate at 842.2 while East Renfrewshire is third with 835.9.

In terms of Ayrshire's three local authorities, North Ayrshire has the highest rate of 738.9 while South Ayrshire's rate is 701.8 and East Ayrshire's is 688.3

A total of 483 new cases of Covid were reported in Ayrshire. Broken down, 173 were in East Ayrshire, 157 in East Ayrshire and 152 in South Ayrshire.

There are 92 Covid patients in Ayrshire hospitals – up two from yesterday – while eight people are battling the disease in intensive care in the region.

A total of 4,150,157 people have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 3,798,938 have received a second dose.
