The Income Tax department conducted a search operation at former Maharashtra home minister, Anil Desmukh’s Nagpur residence on September 17. Deshmukh’s residence was searched in connection with alleged income tax irregularities. This comes after suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze recently alleged that he collected money from bar and hotel owners under Deshmukh’s orders. Waze further claims that Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab and Deshmukh allegedly received Rs 40 crore from 10 DCPs in Mumbai, to reverse their transfer orders. The Enforcement Directorate has also filed a criminal case against Deshmukh under the anti-money laundering law. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has declined any interim protection for Deshmukh, from coercive action by the ED or CBI.
