PATNA: Bihar surpassed all other states, including the most populous Uttar Pradesh and the Prime Minister’s home state Gujarat, in administering the doses of covid-19 vaccines on the occasion of the PM Narendra Modi’s 71st birthday on September 17.
“While Bihar stood at the first position in the country by administering more than 33.09 lakh doses of covid-19 vaccines during a day-long mega vaccination campaign on the PM’s birthday on September 17, Karnataka bagged the second position by administering 30.82 lakh doses,” a health department official told TOI on Saturday quoting the state-wise data available on Government of India’s official portal.

He said the most populous Uttar Pradesh managed to secure third position with 28.73 lakh doses and Madhya Pradesh the fourth position by administering 28.22 lakh doses. The PM’s home state Gujarat stood at the fifth position by administering 24.56 lakh doses of covid-19 vaccines on Modi’s 71st birthday.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar too hailed his government’s achievement in covid-19 vaccination.

“I congratulate people of Bihar for a record vaccination during the mega vaccination campaign. Bihar has written a new golden chapter by administering 33,09,685 doses of covid-19 vaccines during the mega vaccination campaign on September 17. As per the data, Bihar is at the first position in the country,” Nitish said in a statement issued by his office here on Saturday.
Nitish also said that Bihar government had fixed a target of administering 30 lakh doses of covid-19 vaccines during the mega campaign on September 17, but the state administered a total of 33,09,685 doses of covid-19 vaccines in a day, surpassing its own target. “It is a big achievement,” he said.
The CM also congratulated the health department’s officials and employees for surpassing the target of vaccination during the mega campaign. “I hope the health department will continue to work with similar dedication in the future,” Nitish said.
