Teen found safe after going missing in Aurora

The 16-year-old left home Sept. 6 and was missing for several weeks before he was found by Lakewood Police on Sept. 27.

AURORA, Colo. — An Aurora teen who was missing for a little more than two weeks has been found and is safe, Aurora Police said.

The 16-year-old disappeared on Sept. 6th and had not been seen until he was found at a Walmart in Lakewood on Sept. 27, his family said.

His family said he had run away before, but not for that long.

"We're searching," the boy's stepmother said on Sept. 18. "We're just searching for him, searching for a clue, searching for something. He actually told us he was just going to run out the door and run back in, that's what we were expecting -- he never came back in."

He even missed his 16th birthday and the party the family had been planning for weeks.

“He was super, super excited about turning 16 and having a super 16,” his stepmother said.

Aurora police said they were involved in the search but had exhausted all leads and needed the community's help.

The boy's family said they were frustrated by the lack of progress police had made as of Sept. 18. Family, friends, neighbors and even strangers gathered to aid the boy's stepmother and father in the search for the teen.

“I’m not going to get emotional, but I’m glad all of y’all showed up because this feels crazy it feels like a nightmare,” his stepmother said.

They went from business to business leaving flyers, hoping to get the word out, even going as far as stopping traffic to hand out flyers to those driving by.

“We’re going to do everything that we can and then some more. That's the plan," his stepmother said. "We'll bring my son home. If he's around we will find him.”
