Kerala: 19,325 test positive for Covid; TPR at 15.96%

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state witnessed 19,325 positive cases of the 1,21,070 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 15.96%. The state also logged 143 Covid deaths, taking the toll in the state to 23,440. At the same time, 27,266 patients have recovered from the disease.
Among the new cases, 18,114 cases have been infected through local spread.The contact source of infection was not traceable for1,038. There are 77 healthcare professionals among those infected and 96 people have arrived from outside the state.
Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases with 2,626, followed by Thrissur (2,329), Kozhikode (2,188) and Thiruvananthapuram (2,050).
The total active cases at present are 1,80,842, of which 13.2% people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres. There are 5,28,083 persons presently under observation in various districts, of which 5,02,189 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres, and 25,894 are in isolation at hospitals.
Revised estimate of vaccination cover
The Centre had earlier set the target population for the vaccination cover as 2.87 crore in the state. However, in the revised estimate, it has been reduced to 2.67 crore. Based on this new guideline, the population that has to be covered in the 18 to 44 age group is 1,39,26,000, and in the 45 to 59 age group is 69,30,000. Among those above 60 years, the total targeted population is 58,53,000.
With the revised target, the state has achieved 88.94% first dose vaccination and 36.67% second dose vaccination. When combined with the first and second dose vaccination, the total population which have received the vaccination is 3,35,49,847. As per the statistics, only 29 lakh population is remaining to receive the first vaccine dose.
