PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar could not stop his smile during his ‘Janta Darbar’ programme on Monday when a retired principal of Goaplganj district approached him with an unusual demand.
Yogendra Mishra, a retired principal of an Intercollege, urged the CM to get his village merged with Uttar Pradesh. His village is located near Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border in Gopalganj district.
Septuagenarian Mishra called on the CM during his “Janta Ke Darbar Mein Mukhyamantri” programme at the CM secretariat here.

When Nitish inquired, “What is your problem? Is there no (approach) road in your village?”
“No, you have already got a road constructed up to my village,” Mishra said.
“Then, what is your problem?” the CM again asked.
“Kushinagar district (Uttar Pradesh) is just 1 KM away from my village. The geographical location of my village clearly indicates that it should be a part of UP’s Kushinagar district, instead of Bihar. I therefore request you to get my village merged with UP,” Mishra replied.
Nitish was literally stunned for a moment after hearing the retired principal’s demand. As Mishra once again repeated the demand for
merger of his village with Kushinagar district, the CM could not stop his smile and asked his office staff to take Mishra to the senior officials of the road construction department.
A woman ‘Nyaya Mitra’, working with Chausa gram panchayat in Buxar district, informed the CM that she was unable to work as ‘Nayaya Mitra’ after her gram panchayat was upgraded into ‘Nagar Panchayat’. A Nyaya Mitra is employed in the village court to help illiterate litigants under the Panchayati Raj system. She urged the CM to adjust her ‘employment’ in other departments.

Taking her grievance seriously, Nitish asked the chief secretary to make arrangements for employment of all those ‘Nayaya Mitra’ who have stopped working due to conversion of their gram panchayat into a nagar panchayat.
Nitish heard the grievances of altogether 123 applicants at today’s Janta Darbar and sent their applications to senior officials of the concerned departments.
