K-pop fans in the city are well and truly stoked about BLACKPINK Lisa’s sleek and sassy debut solo album, Lalisa, which dropped online on September 10. The South Korean girl band’s 24-year-old Thai rapper, Lalisa Manobal, aka Lisa, is known not just for her singing skills, but also for her crisp dance moves on stage and in the band’s hugely popular videos. And as her video zoomed past the 170 million views mark within a week, we reached out to some Kolkata-based BLACKPINK fans – popular as BLINKs – to know their views about the album and the band members.
Let’s tune in...
Listening to BLACKPINK is the best way to relax: Puja Pandey, HR professional
All the members of BLACKPINK are so hard-working! Their journey to become global pop icons at such a young age not only inspires me but millions out there. I feel their music has an aura that makes it very soothing. The story of each girl is so different and special. After a busy day at work, listening to their songs after coming home is my ideal idea of relaxation. And now, I’ve added Lisa’s solo track to that playlist.
I’ve been following the band since 2016: Darren Norman, student
I have been following the group since 2016 when they first came into focus. I really like the catchy tunes and the melodies in their tracks. And of course, the cool moves in their music videos. Though Jennie is my favourite, Lisa’s new track is a gift for lovers of their music.
Lisa’s dance moves got me hooked to blackpink: Maumi Bhowal, student
I got hooked to BLACKPINK in 2019 after seeing Lisa’s dance moves. And I love the way she moves in her solo album, Lalisa. Even
Rose, the band’s lead vocalist, has an angelic voice. She had also released her debut solo album in March.
The girls have achieved what they have just because of their dedication, hard work, passion and love towards music and their fans.
These girls don’t yearn for imaginary love: Aditya Pandey, student
I believe it is one of the most popular girl groups among the international K-pop fans. What really attracts me towards them is that these girls don’t yearn for imaginary love. Kill This Love is one of my favourite tracks by BLACKPINK. I am really fond of Jisoo, the main face of BLACKPINK. She is beautiful and is always seen taking care of the group.
Lisa’s solo track is on my playlist, she has my heart: Kiran Gupta, student
I used to like BLACKPINK a lot, but after I heard Lalisa, I’ve become a die-hard fan. The track is on my playlist 24x7. What a voice! These four girls are simply becoming benchmarks for our generation. Seeing these hardworking girls achieve such success motivates and inspires me every time. Each member of the band is special, but Lisa has my heart. Her story is different as she has faced a lot, right from racism to xenophobia and homophobia.
