Nashik Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Tuesday pulled up senior National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and PWD officials for the poor condition of the Mumbai-Nashik expressway. Bhujbal warned officials of action if the highway is not repaired soon.

The Indian Express had on September 15 reported about the poor state of the Mumbai-Nashik expressway and the Bhiwandi bypass (connecting Thane and Mumbai-Nashik expressway).

Apart from NHAI and PWD, officials from MMRDA, MSRDC and the highway police also attended the meeting held at Mantralaya.

Former Nashik MP Sameer Bhujbal, while maintaining that due to potholes, serpentine queues of vehicles could be witnessed right up to the Mulund toll naka, suggested that the roads be concretised. NHAI officials said that if the work was not completed by October 15, the toll contract would be cancelled.

Due to the presence of the potholes on the expressway, the travel time from Nashik to Mumbai has increased from three-and-a-half hours to six hours.
