Mysuru boy bags CET first rank, 1.8 lakh examinees qualify for engineering

BENGALURU: Mysuru’s Meghan HK of Pramati Hill View Academy secured first rank in all branches of the Common Entrance Test (CET) — engineering, pharmacy, veterinary sciences, agriculture and bachelor of naturopathy & yogic sciences (BNYS). The others in the top 10 in the engineering list are from Bengaluru. The result of the exam held on August 28-30 was announced on Monday.
Around 2 lakh students appeared for the entrance test.Of them, 1.83 lakh (94.7%) students became eligible for engineering and 1.86 lakh (96.5%) for the pharma courses. Around 81% students cleared veterinary and BNYS and 79% agriculture courses.

Eight of the top10 ranks in engineering were bagged by students from CBSE schools; ranks 3 and 7 were secured by students of PU colleges.

In pharmacy too, CBSE students maintained the lead with 6 figuring in the top 10. The tables turned for BNYS and veterinary sciences, with eight PU students in the top 10. In agriculture, both held 5 ranks each. Overall, in the top 10 in five streams there were 12 CBSE students and 12 PU students.
This year, 1,82,286 PU students and 8,125 CBSE students had appeard for the exam. The number of students who became eligible for engineering was 96.8% from PU, 65.6% from CBSE, and 57% from ISC. The numbers were 98%, 75% and 64.8% respectively for B Pharma. Around 96.8% of Kannadamedium students and 96.6% of rural students became eligible for the engineering programme. While 5,235 secured 55-plus marks in biology, 217 scored it in chemistry and 199 in maths. Only 26 students could reach that mark in physics. Grace marks of 3 each were given for physics and maths.
“There are 1.09 lakh engineering seats available in the state, of which 54,000 are through CET. Last year 34,000 seats were filled from the government quota. There will be no cut-off rank for engineering and all eligible students can apply,” said minister for higher education, CN Ashwatha Narayana. “We will ensure that Get CET Go coaching will be made available from I PU.”
The results of around 7,000 students have been withheld.
