Winston-Salem: Gun found in student's backpack at Reynolds High School, sheriff says
Authorities said they have arrested a Reynolds High School student after a gun was found in their backpack Tuesday. A Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy assigned as a school resource officer on the Winston-Salem campus located the weapon after deputies and Winston-Salem police officers gathered intelligence about the student involved.The SRO was able to secure the gun without further incident. Authorities would not confirm or deny if the gun was loaded, citing that the incident is an ongoing investigation.Deputies said no one was hurt during the ordeal.The student, who is a juvenile, is expected to be charged with possessing a weapon on campus. “We work 24/7 to gather and monitor intelligence that keeps our community safe," Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough Jr. stated in a press release. "We are doing all we can with the resources allocated to us. We must continue to partner with one another throughout our community, to continue to be proactive instead of reactive.
