Tax officer arrested for accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh

Coimbatore: The directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) on Tuesday arrested a commercial tax officer (CTO) while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the owner of a private company.
G Vivekanandan, a commercial tax officer, Avarampalayam circle, was arrested based on a complaint lodged by a woman owner of a private company with the DVAC.
The CTO had demanded Rs 1 lakh as bribe from the woman for not issuing an order to pay a penalty of Rs 15.7 lakh.
The penalty was imposed for an error committed by the company in its annual report for the 2014-15 financial year.
DVAC sleuths laid a trap and arrested Vivekanandan. He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
