Kerala reports 15,768 new Covid cases

The state reported 15,768 new cases in the 1,05,513 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate was 14.94%. At the same time, 214 recent deaths were confirmed as Covid-related deaths, taking the related death toll in state to 23,898. Also, 21,367 patients recovered from the disease.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state reported 15,768 new cases in the 1,05,513 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate was 14.94%. At the same time, 214 recent deaths were confirmed as Covid-related deaths, taking the related death toll in state to 23,898. Also, 21,367 patients recovered from the disease.
Among the new cases, 14,746 happened via local spread.
The contact source of the infection was not traceable in 798 cases. There are100 healthcare professionals among those infected and 124 people had arrived from outside the state.
Thrissur topped with 1,843 cases, followed by Kottayam (1,632), Thiruvananthapuram (1591), Ernakulam (1,545), Palakkad (1,419), Kollam (1,407), Malappuram (1,377), Alappuzha (1,250), Kozhikode (1,200), Kannur (993), Pathanamthitta (715), Idukki (373), Wayanad (237) and Kasaragod (186).
The total number of active cases in state was 1,61,195, of which 13.7% people were admitted in hospitals or in other treatment centres. Patients who tested negative are Thiruvananthapuram (1,657), Kollam (1431), Pathanamthitta (1,206), Alappuzha (1,104), Kottayam (1,460), dukki (803), Ernakulam (2,712), Thrissur (2,448), Palakkad (1,429), Malappuram (2,591), Kozhikode (2,508), Wayanad (801), Kannur (752) and Kasaragod (465). There are a total of 4,86,600 persons presently under observation in various districts, of which 4,62,691 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 23,909 are in isolation at hospitals.
As per the weekly infection population ratio 2,507 wards in 678 local bodies are having WIPR of over 8%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.
