The Mumbai police have arrested a 43-year-old cyber fraudster for allegedly cheating a senior citizen of Rs 10 lakh by posing as his friend, who stays in the US, an official said on Wednesday.The Cyber Crime Branch cracked the more than two months old fraud case and arrested the accused, Samrat Surendrakumar Choudhary, on Tuesday evening, he said. The incident came to light on July 5, when the senior citizen approached the Central Region Cyber Police Station with a cheating complaint, the official said.

Mumbai: Man held for stealing valuables worth lakhs from senior citizen's house
The Mumbai police have arrested a 37-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly breaking into the house of a senior citizen and decamping with valuables worth lakhs, an official said.The accused had allegedly also stolen the money the 80-year-old woman had saved for a knee surgery, which could not be conducted, as a result of which she died recently, the official said.The Vakola police apprehended the accused Ismail alias Salim Sheikh from Nigohi district in Uttar Pradesh last week, he said.

Two criminals who were externed from Thane and Mumbai limits were spotted within their jurisdiction, police said on Wednesday.The two, Parvez Ahmed Haji Ahmed Momin (45) and Sahid Abdul Munaf Choudhari (21), were externed on February 2, 2021, and January 22, 2021, respectively, for a period of one year, they said. During their externment period, they were not supposed to enter Thane district, Mumbai city and its suburbs, the police said. However, Momin was spotted near a civic office in Bhiwandi town of Thane district on Tuesday, while Choudhari was seen at a shop in Vikhroli, a Mumbai suburb, the same day by Crime Branch officials, they said. Separate offences have been registered against them under section 142 of the Maharashtra Police Act (penalty for entering without permission area from which a person is directed to remove himself), they added. Under externment rules, a criminal is banished from a certain geographical area. These rules are meant to prevent a person or gang from committing crimes.

My information is...I was with Pawar in 1998 when Congress removed him from the party. Mother-daughter duo from overseas held with Rs 25 crore heroin at Mumbai airport
Two foreign women, a mother-daughter duo, were arrested by customs officials with nearly 5 kg of heroin worth Rs 25 crore at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here, an official said on Wednesday. The contraband was concealed in the cavities of the trolley bags carried by the mother-daughter duo, who had travelled to the city on Sunday from Johannesburg via Doha in a Qatar Airlines flight, the official said. Their nationality was not disclosed. The women were caught with 4.95 kg of heroin worth Rs 25 crore, he said, adding the accused had arrived in India on the pretext of seeking treatment for lung cancer. A probe revealed the duo was supposed to deliver the consignment at a hotel room and was going to get a huge amount of money for carrying and delivering the contraband, the official said. The customs department has started a search for the person who was supposed to receive the drug consignment, he said. The duo, arrested under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, was produced in a court which remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days, the official added.
Mumbai: Draft of verification of corporator ward boundaries to be ready in 15 days, says BMC
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which is currently verifying the 227 corporator ward boundaries by superimposing the same on the 2011 census of the city is expected to complete the process soon.Senior officials said that a draft of the same will be ready in a fortnight.The same will be submitted to the state election commission (SEC) who is then likely to call for suggestions and objections. Once the same is finalized, a lottery for the seats will be held. The 2011 census has been used as the base considering that the 2021 census of the city is delayed owing to the pandemic.

Covid-19: Kalyan Dombivli reports 72 new cases, two deaths
The twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli in Maharashtra's Thane district continue to report a spurt in new Covid-19 cases.On Wednesday, the cities reported 72 fresh cases of coronavirus, according to the latest data by Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC).Most of the cases came up in Kalyan west (21), followed by 20 in Dombivli east, 15 in Kalyan east and seven in Dombivli west.

Mumbai local: 10-hour special block between Kalwa, Mumbra on September 26
The Central Railway (CR) will operate a 10-hour special traffic and power block on the Kalwa-Mumbra UP slow line near Mumbai on Sunday for expediting the work on the 5th and 6th line on the Thane-Diva route.The special block will be conducted from 8 am to 6 pm on September 26 in connection with slewing of Up slow line for Thane-Diva 5th and 6th Line, the CR said in a release on Wednesday.
