LUCKNOW: A two-day commerce festival got underway here on Tuesday as part of a week-long
Vaanijya Mahotsav to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of Independence.
Union minister of state for commerce and industry
Anupriya Patel, who inaugurated the festival, said that UP would be represented extensively in the upcoming
Dubai Expo from October 1 where products like
Luckow’s chikankari and carpets from
Bhadohi would be put on display.
The two-day festival is featuring various one district-one product items like Banarasi saris and perfumes from Kannauj.
Patel said that programmes like ‘Local for Vocal’ and ‘Make in India’ had seen India’s exports increase massively even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“India’s global economy will grow at the rate of 6% in the coming financial year and global merchandising will increase to 8% in 2021. In 2020-21, the Centre’s target for merchandise export is $400 billion and by 2027-28, we will take it to $2 trillion,” she said.
Patel said that despite the pandemic India’s exports have increased by 67% in the past five months. Where the Centre’s exports in the first five months last year were $98 billion, this year it was $164 billion.
“Before 2017, exports from UP were Rs 84,000 crore, which has increased to Rs 1.21 lakh crore under the current government,” she added.
