PANAJI: In a unique initiative, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is looking to allow students who have failed in Class IX and XI during the last academic year to appear as private candidates for the Class X and XII public exams in 2022.
The board has said that this is a one-time concession being granted due to the pandemic and has called for public suggestions on the scheme.

As the board has already revised the scheme for private candidates for 2021-22, these students will get the help of year-round internal assessment component, which will be taken into account when calculating the final Class X and XII results, said Goa Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye.
“The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, in its annual general body meeting held on September 18, after extensive deliberation, decided to seek the opinion of stakeholders and general public whether to allow ‘needs improvement’ candidates of Class IX and Class XI of the academic year 2020-2021, to appear as private candidates in the ensuing public examination 2021-2022 for Class X and Class XII respectively,” the board has said in its notice.
This could be a one-time measure for the students in view of Covid-19 pandemic situation, the board has stated.
“The suggestions received will be placed before the committee constituted to decide on the matter. The suggestions must be sent on sec.gbshse.goa@gmail.com, latest by September 24,” the notice reads.
