LUCKNOW: Two persons were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP) chief late Mahant Narendra Giri. The influential Hindu seer, 62, was found dead on Monday at Baghambari Math in Prayagraj.
Additional director general of police (law and order) Prashant Kumar said Anand Giri and Adya Tiwari have been arrested in connection with the death of Narendra Giri and one more has been detained in connection with the same case.
The arrest was made on the basis of the FIR registered by one of his disciples, said Kumar.
The FIR was registered by Maharaj Amar Giri Pawan at Georgetown police station naming Anand Giri.
"Postmortem has also been conducted on the mortal remains of the seer by a panel," he said. Police also stated that a suicide note was recovered from Mahant Narendra Giri's room.
Mahant Giri had also accused one of his disciples Anand Giri of ‘mental torture’ which forced him to take the extreme step.
Giri was the chief of ABAP which is the apex decision-making body of the 13 recognised Hindu monastic orders of the country.
