DHARWAD: The Rotary Club of Seven Hills, Dharwad, in association with Rotary Bangalore South and Rotary Club of Bangalore Centennial will organise a free hand prosthesis camp at Saraswati Niketan from 8am to 5pm on October 24.
President of the club Dr Pallavi Deshpande said on Tuesday that Rotarians are organizing the first of its kind free camp to help people who have lost hands due to accident or trauma or are disabled by birth.
It is being done under the guidance of Global Ambassador of LN4 Hand Prosthesis Project Rotarian Mohan Kumar KV from Bengaluru, she said.
She said prosthesis will be provided to more than 200 beneficiaries. Registration for the camp is mandatory and has to be done by calling 9880525404.
Dr Pallavi said the below elbow prosthetic hand is being imported from The Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation, USA. The LN-4 (which is named after Ellen who lost her hand in an accident) prosthetic hand is most appropriate for below elbow loss and is appropriate for all ages over the age of eight years.
Recipients can perform simple daily activities
One size LN-4 device fits all recipients and functions as either the left or right hand. The LN-4 hand is attached easily with Velcro straps and is easily removed by the wearer in a few seconds. The LN-4 hand is strong and, when correctly fit on the recipient’s arm, will support more than 4-4.5 kgs of weight. It just weighs 400-450 gms.
Dr Pallavi said the prosthetic hand will help recipients do simple but important daily activities such as holding objects, combing hair, cooking, farming, driving etc. “Through this camp, we hope to reach each and every citizen of Dharwad and surrounding districts, who needs a prosthetic hand. We will be happy if the number of beneficiaries exceeds 200,” she said.
Rotarians Dr Kavan Deshpande, Gouri Madanabhavi and others were present.
