NOIDA: Private players have for the first time shown interest in setting up charging stations for electric vehicles in the city. Two private companies — EVRE and Park+ — will jointly set up 40 charging stations over the next two months, officials said. The first one will come up at Sector 51 metro station.
While EVRE will provide the infrastructure, equipment, resources and concept, Park+ will identify the locations where the stations could be developed.
Not just government offices, the two firms are eyeing spaces in malls and housing societies as well.
The three development authorities — Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway — have all announced plans encouraging electric vehicles in their areas. While Noida has already set up 20 charging stations across the city, Greater Noida Authority has also built a few.
The 40 charging points that will come up will be open in the night as well. “We will encourage people to charge their vehicles during the night as well. The number of battery-powered commercial vehicles is increasing across NCR. Such vehicles require several hours to get charged. They can use our stations,” said Chandresh Sethia, the co-founder of EVRE.
The tentative traffic for the services has been pegged at Rs 13 per kWh. Slots will be available on an app. Apart from Noida, the two companies will set up stations in Delhi and Gurgaon too. They plan to take spaces on rent in the parking lots of malls, hotels and business parks and provide a share of their earnings to the owner of the premises.
Amit Lakhotia, founder and chief executive officer of Park+, said, “It is extremely important to choose the right locations for setting up electric vehicle charging stations. Only then can the utilisation go high. Park+ is helping EVRE with high footfall locations.”
For instance, the Sector 51 metro station, where the first such charging point will come up, acts as a junction between the Blue and Aqua Line corridors. A charging station is also being planned in Sector 63, where commercial and business activity is on the higher side.
