Winston-Salem: Hispanic League hosts 'Hispanic Heritage Month' events
It’s Hispanic Heritage Month and there are many ways to celebrate in the Triad.
Leaders of the Hispanic League, a group based in Winston-Salem, said this month is a great time to educate the community about the 22 different Hispanic and Latino countries represented in North Carolina.
There are several local events planned between now and the end of October.
According to the Hispanic League, there will be a complimentary prescription wine tasting at The Katherine in Downtown Winston-Salem with live Latin music on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 5-7 p.m.
Beginning on Oct. 1, the Hispanic League’s Scholarship application will be open. It’s available to Hispanic and Latino students applying to college with a 2.7 GPA or higher and given at least 20 hours of volunteer time.
On Friday, Oct. 8, there’s a Facebook Live event called Sabor D’ Casa where people can follow along to a cooking show, travel video, and music.
Diane Massas, the Development Assistant at the Hispanic League, explained the significance behind these activities and events, as well as Hispanic Heritage Month.
“A great opportunity for local communities to get to know us, like not looking for our differences, but what things we can share and we can connect with and embrace us as a community. I think with the pandemic this is something that we need to learn that we need to be together as a community to be and go forward,” Massas said.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs through October. It officially ends on Oct. 15.
