Following heavy downpour in north Odisha, the water level in Jalaka river crossed the danger mark, resulting in a massive breach of about 500 feet in one of its embankments. This has given rise to flood-like situations in Balasore district. Floodwaters spilling out of the river have marooned several villages. Moreover, many roads have also been submerged, disrupting communication. The villagers are trying to keep sandbags to prevent breach of the embankment. Reportedly, the Jalaka river is flowing at 7.31 metre mark against the danger level of 5.50 metre.
