THANE: Soon, 50 new suburban services could be deployed on the Thane-Kalyan railway route for the benefit of commuters, Shiv Sena MP Dr Shrikant Shinde informed Wednesday.
Dr Shinde addressed the media on the backdrop of the announcement of ten-hour traffic and power block to be held between Kalwa and Mumbra for the Thane-Diva 5th & 6th line. The Sena leader who has been following up for the speedy execution of the project said the existing crowd and congestion on the saturated lines will end once the additional lines are made operational.
“The railways will be able to operate around 50 new services on the sector for the benefit of commuters from far-flung suburbs,” he said.

The railways have scheduled the block to slew the Up slow line from 8 am to 6 pm on Sunday, following which the services on the Thane-Diva route will be affected. All Up slow/semi fast services leaving Kalyan from 7.27 am to 5.40 pm will be diverted on Up fast line between Diva and Mulund and arrive their destination 10 minutes behind schedule.
All locals leaving Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 8 am and 5 pm and arriving between 9 am and 7 pm will run 10 minutes behind schedule.
“Special services will be run for benefit of passengers while state transport buses will also be arranged for the convenience of passengers from the block affected areas,” said a railway official.
