Mylab Discovery Solutions, a company based in Pune, is the manufacturer as well as distributor of the Coviself Covid-19 self-test kit.
Also, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said Friday that he was ready to take over Puneâs Ring Road Project if the state government, which is presently overseeing the project, agrees to it and takes the responsibility for land acquisition. Gadkari was in Pune on Friday to lay the foundation stone for two important flyover projects at Sinhagad Road and Pune-Satara Road. The events were also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
The BJP has landed in a spot of bother after party corporator Asha Shendge repeated her charges that corruption has taken place in the implementation of the Rs 1,200-crore smart city project in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The PCMC administration has asked the corporator to direct her complaints to state principal secretary Nitin Kareer, who is the chairman of Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Ltd.
BJP corporators on the board of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Smart City Ltd and PCMC officials, however, have denied the charges. Shendge and another BJP corporator, Seema Savale, have demanded an investigation into corruption allegations.

An offence has been registered against three persons for allegedly creating a ruckus and assaulting mourners during a cremation at a village in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police said on Saturday. A case under sections 297 (trespassing on burial places), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 was registered at Saphale police station on Friday, an official said.
No arrest has been in connection with the alleged incident that took place on Thursday, he said. According to the police, a 55-year-old woman, who died of a brief illness, was being taken for cremation, when the accused Vinod Sakharam Thakur, Sarita Vinod Thakur and Nachiket Vinod Thakur stopped the mourners from entering the village crematorium.
The trio allegedly verbally abused villagers taking part in the funeral procession and beat some of them up, the official said. One of the villagers lodged a complaint with the police, following which a case was registered, he said, adding that further probe is underway. (PTI)

Three cops attached to Warje police station have been suspended from service for alleged negligence leading to the escape of a rape accused. The escapee was recaptured by the police.
Warje police had arrested a 28-year-old man identified as Swagat Kamble for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl on September 17. He was being investigated at the detection branch of the Warje police station, but in the early hours of September 18, he escaped from police custody.

The chorus for an amendment in the Sugarcane Control Order, 1966, has strengthened after Maharashtra and other sugar-producing states have expressed their support for certain changes, which would allow sugar mills to pay farmers the government-declared Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for cane in installments.
Maharashtra, the second largest sugar producer in the country, has suggested payment of FRP in three installments across two cane crushing seasons. The Sugarcane Order, 1966, mandates payment of FRP within 14 days from the day cane is purchased from farmers. In case the mills fail to do so, they are expected to pay an interest of 15 per cent per annum for late payment, though this provision has rarely been used.

Hailing the 'cordial political culture' of Maharashtra, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Friday that it should be emulated by leaders in other states of the country. The BJP leader was speaking here at the launch of a book penned by Marathi film-maker Ramdas Phutane who is also known for his witty verse on politics.
"Maharashtra has a tradition of cordial relations between leaders of various parties and it should be emulated by other states too," Gadkari said. 'Once (Samajwadi Party leader) Mulayam Singh asked me how was it that I and Sharad Pawar were seen together at Murli Manohar Joshi's felicitation in Parliament though we are from rival parties. The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune and Durham University, UK, will jointly work on designing and developing specialised training programmes for teachers engaging undergraduate and postgraduate level students in the country.
The two institutions inked an MoU in this regard on Thursday, under which a virtual Centre for Teaching Excellence and Pedagogy will be established. The proposed activities under this MoU include hosting joint workshops, and arranging student and faculty exchange between the two institutes.

A woman from Tamil Nadu who worked as a domestic help in Pune city has been arrested for allegedly stealing from her employers. Shathi Chandran, who worked in a residential society in Wanwadi, allegedly mixed sedatives in the food that she cooked for her employer’s family.
After all the family members fell unconscious, she stole their gold ornaments and other valuables and escaped from the spot, said police. An offence was lodged in this case at the Wanwadi police station under sections 381 and 328 of the Indian Penal Code.

There is no difference of opinion among members of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra over the multi-member ward system for civic body elections, deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar claimed on Friday. Pawar, guardian minister of Pune district, was talking to the media after a Covid-19 review meeting here.
The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government earlier this week announced that in municipal corporations each ward will have a panel of three corporators while wards of municipal councils will have two-member panels. But Congress, a member of the MVA, is opposed to this system.
"As an individual party they (MVA constituents) have their own views about the number of members in a ward. However, we are all together....whatever may be the decision on the ward structure, it will be agreable to all three parties. We will discuss the ward structure issue in the cabinet meeting next week," Pawar, an NCP leader, told reporters. (PTI)

Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said Friday that he was ready to take over Pune’s Ring Road Project if the state government, which is presently overseeing the project, agrees to it and takes the responsibility for land acquisition. Gadkari was in Pune on Friday to lay the foundation stone for two important flyover projects at Sinhagad Road and Pune-Satara Road. The events were also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Gadkari said his ministry has undertaken ring road projects in Hyderabad and Bengaluru and if the Maharashtra government agrees, the Pune Ring Road project too can be taken over. “If the state government acquires the required land and hands it over to us, we will construct the Pune Ring Road. It’s an important project for the city. The rates of land along the proposed projects are very high and if Dada (Pawar) takes personal interest he can resolve the issues being faced by the project in land acquisition,” said Gadkari. As many as eight lakh persons will appear for examinations conducted by the Maharashtra public health department for filling up around 6,200 vacant posts in the Group C and Group D categories on September 25 and 26, respectively. In Pune district, over a lakh candidates have enrolled for the examination.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had earlier said the state government was aware of the vacancies in the state health department, and measures were being taken to fill them. Accordingly, around 2,000 posts have been filled of medical officers and specialists based on merit and after counselling rounds. Over the weekend, examinations will be held to fill posts in Group C and Group D categories.

Out on bail after being jailed for throwing ink on Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil’s nameplate, BJP corporator Asha Shendge said on Friday that she had made several written complaints to Patil regarding the “digging up” of roads in Kasarwadi during the festival season before resorting to the ink protest with her supporter on September 5.
Shendge alleged Commissioner Patil was resorting to lies by claiming she had only made “oral complaints”. She said she would complain to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) regarding the attempts made by the PCMC administration to muzzle the voices of honest tax-paying citizens by putting them in jail.

Pune city police have arrested a woman for allegedly committing as many as 11 thefts at homes in several localities in the city while working as domestic help. The accused has been identified as Shanthi Chandran (43), a resident of Venggikkal in Tiruvannamail district in Tamil Nadu.
Stolen booty worth Rs 60.91 lakh, which includes about 1,250 grams of gold, from the accused who was arrested from Tamil Nadu.

Pune City Police have lodged another offence against a group of four persons, including a man who claimed to be an ‘anti-corruption activist’, for allegedly threatening a builder and demanding extortion amount of Rs 1 crore from him.
The 47-year-old builder, who runs a construction firm, has lodged the first information report in this case at the Shivajinagar police station. Police have identified the accused as Rajesh Bajaj, K R Qureshi, Ashok Jadhav and Bapu Shinde.

The project will require a total expenditure of Rs 4,020 crore of which Rs 323 crore (10 per cent) will come from the Union government, Rs 485 crore (15 per cent) from the state government and Rs 485 crore (15 per cent) from the PMC.

In a strenuous one-hour long operation, a small Indian civet cat was rescued from a 30-feet-deep well by Wildlife SOS and officials of the state Forest Department at Hapusbag in Junnar division. The animal was later released back into its natural habitat. The civet was first spotted by villagers, who contacted the Forest Department and Wildlife SOS.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Thursday recorded 135 new Covid-19 cases. 180 patients recovered from the infection. The total number of active cases stands at 1,099. Of these, 712 are in home isolation and 387 are admitted to various hospitals.
Tenements priced above Rs 2 crore in Pune have seen an 88 per cent increase in sales between January and July 2021 as compared to the same period in 2019.
Between January and July this year, Pune has seen sales of 53,000 units, an 8 per cent growth as compared to sales in the same period in 2019 (49,000 units), according to a report released recently by Credai. The statement said that the city has seen sales of Rs 27,500 crore this year while in 2019 the figure was Rs 21,500 crore.

Pune district Thursday reported 769 new Covid-19 cases, 7 deaths. 650 people recovered from the infection, leaving 7,143 active cases in the district. Over 26,298 samples were tested on Thursday.
Over one crore vaccine doses against Covid-19 have been administered in Pune district by Thursday, said state Health Department officials.
As many as 69.34 lakh persons in Pune district have got the first shot of Covid-19 vaccine while 30.79 lakh have been fully vaccinated. By Thursday, the total number of Covid vaccinations in the district stood at 1,00,14,107.
“By October end, we hope to cover the entire population of 87.42 lakh beneficiaries in Pune district with at least the first dose of the vaccine,” said Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, assistant director, (health) Pune circle, which includes Pune, Satara and Solapur districts.

At least 43 cities from Maharashtra, including Pune, have joined the United Nations-backed Race to Zero campaign, which aims to halve global emissions by 2030 and also includes participation of companies, regions, financial and educational institutions.
Ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12, State Minister of Environment and Climate Change Aaditya Thackeray said on Thursday that the 43 cities and urban clusters that have joined the campaign are part of AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation).
Of these, five cities from western Maharashtra, Mumbai, Nashik, Aurangabad, Kalyan-Dombivali, Pune and Nagpur, had joined the campaign earlier this year.
Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole and state minister Balasaheb Thorat Thursday met Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, to request the BJP to withdraw its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha bypolls.

Observing that "it was disheartening to note the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) is a defunct body at present," the Bombay High Court on Wednesday pulled up the Maharashtra government for not filling up vacant posts of chairpersons and other members of the panel within two months as directed by it on July 12.
The bench asked the state government to ensure the commission is functional to its optimum capacity and expedite appointments for all posts within a month.
A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish S Kulkarni was hearing a PIL filed by social activist Naresh Gosavi in connection to vacancies in MSHRC, the need for a bigger office and providing the commission adequate funds to ensure its financial autonomy. The court has been hearing the PIL for the last seven years.
This year, between January and July, Pune saw sales of 53,000 housing units, which, as per the real estate body CREDAI, is an eight per cent increase from 49,000 units sold in 2019. A report also said units priced above Rs 2 crore have seen an 88 per cent increase in sales as compared to 2019.
This year, the overall sales figure till now stands at Rs 27,500 crores, which in 2019 was Rs 21,500 crores.
The report released during the CREDAI-Pune Metro’s 38th Annual General Meeting provided scientific observations of the growth in the real estate market in different regions of Pune in terms of number of units sold, preferred unit size and price segment.
Majority of the sales were recorded from North West (Baner, Balewadi) — 26 per cent — while Pimpri Chinchwad accounted for 23.5 per cent of the sales. Pune, South-West Pune, South-East Pune and Central Pune contributed approximately 19 per cent, 15 per cent, 14 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively.

An unidentified chain snatcher attacked a 66-year-old woman with a hard object while she was on a morning walk in Pune’s Wakad on Wednesday. The woman, identified as Rekha Girme, received injuries on her neck and was admitted to a hospital for treatment. Girme’s gold chain was saved as the robber ran way after assaulting her following her resistance.

An offence has been registered in Pune against leader of opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council and senior BJP leader Pravin Darekar for allegedly making objectionable references to women in his remarks against the NCP.
While speaking at a public function in Shirur in Pune district recently, Darekar had made some remarks criticising the NCP, which is part of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra.

A total of 7.5 crore vaccine doses have been administered in Maharashtra so far, of which 5.36 crore beneficiaries have got the first dose and 2.13 crore are fully vaccinated with both doses. Of these, 1.34 crore people in the age group of 45 and above have got both doses while over 51 lakh people between 18-44 years have been fully vaccinated.
Dr Pradeep Vyas, additional chief secretary (health), Maharashtra said the maximum vaccinations in a single day were achieved on September 8 (over 15 lakh ), September 18 (over 13 lakh), September 17 (over 12 lakh), September 4 (over 12 lakh) and August 21 (over 11 lakh).

A car dealership based in Vimannagar was duped to the tune of Rs 53 lakh after two of its employees and their accomplice allegedly prepared fake purchase orders in the name of defence personnel. The purchase orders were for five cars and were forged to look like they were from the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping and murdering his 19-year-old sister-in-law. The incident took place at Ghorwadeshwar Hills on Sunday, where the woman’s body was found on Monday. Unions of employees of Bank of Maharashtra held a protest in the city on Wednesday to press for their demands, which include recruitment of staff to fill vacancies, withdrawal of administrative transfer policy and making security arrangements at bank branches and ATMs.
The protesting unions included All India Bank of Maharashtra Employees Federation (AIBOMEF), Bank of Maharashtra Karmachari Mahasangh (BOMKM), Bank of Maharashtra Karmachari Sena (BOMKS) and Mahabank Navnirman Sena (MNS).
The unions held the protest at Lokmangal Building, the head office of Bank of Maharashtra.

Pune district’s weekly Covid positivity rate has dropped below 5 per cent in the week from September 15 to 21, according to a new state Health Department analysis. The positivity rate, however, remains higher than the state average, which also dipped to 2.28 percent.
Dr Pradeep Vyas, additional chief secretary (health), Maharashtra has urged district administrations to expedite the vaccination process and inoculate people in large numbers.
“We have to be vigilant for any rise in Covid-19 cases post Ganpati celebrations,” Dr Vyas told The Indian Express, adding that testing also should be increased in addition to maintaining social distancing and other measures.
