CHENNAI: A 20-year-old woman studying in Madras Christian College (MCC) School of Continuing Education was stabbed to death by a man outside Tambaram railway station on Thursday.
The murdered has been identified as M Swetha who was pursuing a diploma course in medical laboratory technology at the MCC School of Continuing Education.
She was murdered by Ramachandran, a native of Nagapatinam.
The duo had known each other for the last two years, police said.
Ramachandran was employed at a firm in Maraimalai Nagar. Swetha was said to have avoided the man for the past couple of months, according to police.
On Thursday, Ramachandran intercepted Swetha while she was returning from college to board a train. He asked her why she was avoiding him and threatened to end his life. After slitting his hand first, Ramachandran stabbed her at six places leaving her in a pool of blood.
Other students, who witnessed the accident, alerted police. Passersby caught hold of him and handed him over to police.
