Telangana: Two accused in rape and murder of woman arrested, minister faces protest

HYDERABAD: Some women in Nalgonda district gheraoed Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Thursday in protest against the rape and murder of a 54-year-old woman in Mushampally on Wednesday.
Since this incident took place in the back drop of a minor girl’s rape and murder in Saidabad, opposition parties yet again came down heavily criticizing the police.
Deputy inspector general of police (Nalgonda) AV Ranganath said that two persons, both nearly 40-years-old, who were allegedly involved in this offence were arrested and they were produced before a magistrate.
On Wednesday, when the victim was on her way to a grocery store, enroute she went near the prime accused’s house to pluck flowers. "Both the accused, who were already in a drunken condition, dragged her into the residence of the prime accused. The prime accused raped the victim, whereas the other accused was standing outside," DIG said. The prime accused killed her by banging her head to the floor besides attempting to smother.
Later, her body was dragged by the accused to the veranda in the residence of the prime accused. The co-accused went to the relative of the victim and informed that she is unconscious. "The relative first went to the victim’s residence, where she was not seen. Later in search of the accused, when he went to the prime accused’s residence her body was found at the veranda. After he alerted the locals, they nabbed both the accused in a drunken condition and handed them over to police," officials said.
Police said that the respective spouse of both the accused, abandoned them. "The wife of the prime accused, left him a month ago and since then he has been constantly drinking," police said.
On Thursday, when Jagadish Reddy came to the district to participate in an official programme, a large number of women raised slogans and protested. Police had to intervene to control the protesters.
Box- A month ago too, the prime accused molested a local woman, who lodged a complaint. Later after the wife of the accused, requested the victim to withdraw the case with an assurance that he will never misbehave again. The victim withdrew her complaint.
