Rohit Sharma scripted a new Indian Premier League (IPL) record on Thursday as the Mumbai Indians captain became the first batter in the history of the league to complete 1000 runs against a single opposition. Rohit achieved the feat during Match 34 of IPL 2021 against his familiar foes, Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi.

Rohit Sharma missed Mumbai Indians' first game of the UAE leg against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday but he was back to lead the 5-time champions on Thursday. Rohit started with a boundary in the first delivery of the match and carried on playing some eye-catching strokes even as KKR captain Eoin Morgan operated with spin in the first 3 overs of the powerplay.

Only David Warner, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan are close to emulating Rohit Sharma's feat of scoring 1000 runs against a single franchise in the IPL.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has 909 runs against Delhi Capitals and 895 runs against Chennai Super Kings.

Mumbai Indians need their captain Rohit Sharma to step up and deliver with the bat at the top of the order as they are battling to stay in the top 4 after the 20-run defeat to CSK on Saturday. MI have only 4 wins 8 matches even as the likes of Kolkata and Rajasthan Royals are catching up.

Rohit did suffer a knee issue during the 4th Test of India's tour of England earlier this month.
