IMD issues cyclone alert for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday alerted for an impending cyclone in the Bay of Bengal which may make landfall between south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts on Sunday evening.

BHUBANESWAR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday alerted for an impending cyclone in the Bay of Bengal which may make landfall between south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts on Sunday evening.
IMD director general Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra said the cyclonic storm may trigger wind speed up to 90km per hour and cause heavy rain in north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.


An IMD bulletin said a depression intensified into a deep depression over northeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal and moved westwards with a speed of 12kmph in last 6 hours and intensified into a deep depression.
At 5.30am, it lay centered over north and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal near, about 510km east-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 590km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
The IMD said it is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. It is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur around Kalingapatnam by Sunday evening.
