On Wednesday night, people from all across the Treasure Valley and beyond gathered in Boise for the opening night of the Treefort Music Fest.

As bands began doing their soundchecks, people started trickling into the venues downtown.

After the postponed festival last year, this year's Treefort is highly anticipated by both fans and local businesses.

"Purely music," Erik Johnson, an attendee, said. "I mean really, yeah. It's also just a great little community activity."

But safety must still come first during the ongoing pandemic. So masks are encouraged and hand sanitizing stations are set up around the venues.

"We're just asking the community that's coming to please abide by all these protocols," said Eric Gilbert, festival director. "Because we're just trying to show that a safe event can happen, and really stand up for our music community and our arts community at large."

"Other festivals where it's like, mainstream, you have a lot of big businesses, big brand names that come in and like, take over," said Grace Galban, an attendee. "But this one seems very local, and I like that about Treefort."

"There's a pretty broad array of musicians that are here," Marissa Alten, an attendee, said. "And frankly most of whom I haven’t heard of before. So it's kind of a great opportunity to see some off-the-beaten-path shows."

Treefort is limiting its attendance this year because of the coronavirus in an effort to promote social distancing. Still, there will be tens of thousands of people making their way through downtown this weekend.

The final event of Wednesday will wrap up around 1 a.m. Then on Thursday, day two kicks off with the Roller Skate Community Rollout at 10 a.m.
