Munger Landing on the St. Louis River and its parking lot will be closed beginning this spring through the fall of 2023 for a river cleanup project.

Pedestrians, vehicles and watercraft will not have access to the Clyde Avenue boat launch in Duluth during that time, according to a news release from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

During the closure, nearly 100,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediments will be removed. Contaminants of concern include dioxins and furans, mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls and heavy metals and are the result of shipping and industrial activity, according to the MPCA.

Other access points to the river include Boy Scout Landing and Rice's Point.

Federal, state and local partners are working with the MPCA to clean up 10 sites along the river as part of the St. Louis River Area of Concern Remedial Action Plan.
