Punjab cabinet: Here are the new ministers

Six ministers who were dropped are Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Sunder Shyam Arora, Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, Balbir Singh Sidhu and Gurpreet Kangar.

After almost a week-long shenanigans, the new Punjab Cabinet was sworn in by Governor Banwari Lal Purohit in the presence of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and deputy chief ministers Sukhjinder S Randhawa and O P Soni at the Raj Bhawan around 4.30 pm Sunday evening.

The ministry includes seven new faces, including Raja Warring, two-time MLA from Gidderbaha, Dr Raj Kumar Verka, three-time legislator from Amritsar, Sangat Singh Gilzian, a three-time MLA, Pargat Singh, two-time MLA from Jalandhar Cantt, Randeep Nabha, four-time MLA, and Beant Singh’s grandson Gurkirat Kotli, also a two-time legislator.

The ministry also includes Rana Gurjit Singh, a former minister who had resigned from the Amarinder Cabinet in 2018 amidst charges of graft.

The former ministers who were retained are Brahm Mohindra, Manpreet Badal, Sukhbinder Sarkaria, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Vijay Inder Singla, Aruna Chaudhary, Razia Sultana and Bharat Bhushan Ashu.

Amloh MLA Randeep Singh Nabha was included in the list of ministers at the eleventh hour. He had protested after the list was finalised and threatened to chalk his future course of action himself.

Dr Raj Kumar Verka: 58, Majha

Dr Raj Kumar Verka, the Valmiki face of the party, was an aspirant for a berth in the Cabinet ever since Amarinder government was elected.

Sangat Singh Gilzian: 67, Doaba

He is also working president of PPCC. He had supported Navjot Sidhu in his revolt against Captain Amarinder.

Pargat Singh: 56, Doaba

Hockey Olympian Pargat Singh is a close aide of Navjot Sidhu and had joined Congress party ahead of the 2017 Assembly election. He is also PPCC general secretary incharge. He has been vociferous in raising issues against Captain. He was ignored by Amarinder and not inducted in his Cabinet

Raja Amrinder S Warring: 43, Malwa

He survived strong protests against his induction by Manpreet Badal. A known baiter Akali leader Sukhbir Badal and his wife Harsimrat, who defeated him from the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat in 2017, he was an IYC chief from 2915 to 2918, and was considered close to Rahul Gandhi.

Gurkirat S Kotli: 47, Malwa

Grandson of late Chief Minister Beant Singh, he had once faced trial in the infamous Katia molestation case. Had been angry with Amarinder for not including him in the 2017 Cabinet.
