HUBBALLI: Shrinivas MP, a railway guard’s son, has crossed another milestone, having completed engineering in Bengaluru and MS in Seattle. The 29-year-old has cracked the UPSC civil services exam and secured the 235th rank.
Prasanna MP, Shrinivas’ father, is an express guard in South Western Railway, Hubballi. “My father used to be away from home on duty while my mother used to take tuitions for the children of the neighbourhood,” Shrinivas said.

“They ensured that I got good education and constantly motivated me to achieve more and more in life.” The family, from Malebennur in Davangere district, has been living in Hubballi for several years now.
Shrinivas did his schooling at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Hubballi and joined Narayan College in Hyderabad for PU. “I pursued BE at RV College of Engineering in Bengaluru and completed MS at University of Washington, Seattle. Then I worked in a private company for a year and returned to Karnataka with the intention of cracking the civil services exams,” he said. This was his fifth attempt.
“As I was very interested in Kannada literature, I took coaching from veteran Kannada critic Narahalli Balasubramanya for three months in Bengaluru. I did not join coaching for the general paper but appeared for some tests in Bengaluru to assess my studies,” he said, explaining his preparations.
