MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Palghar, Raigad and Thane, warning of extremely heavy rains at isolated places being very likely on September 28, and an orange alert for Mumbai for the same day warning of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.
For Monday, a yellow alert has been issued, warning of heavy rains at isolated places at Thane, Palghar and Mumbai, while for Raigad alone an orange alert has been sounded.

Officials said that the cyclonic storm Gulab on Sunday over north west and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal moved nearly westwards with a speed of 18 kmph. Cyclone Gulab is being monitored by Doppler Weather radar in Visakhapatnam.
Shubhangi Bhute, scientist, IMD, said that the cyclonic storm Gulab which was formed on Saturday evening is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur on Sunday evening as a cyclonic storm.
"Due to this, heavy rains coupled with strong and gusty winds are likely to be witnessed in Maharashtra. On September 27, Vidarbha and Marathwada may be impacted, while on September 28, parts of central Maharashtra and Konkan will witness rain activity owing to it. Therefore, citizens are requested to take precautions," said Bhute.
Due to rough sea conditions and intense winds, fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea.
Meanwhile, the city over the weekend saw light to moderate rains, with the IMD Colaba observatory recording 2.6 mm of rains and the IMD Santacruz observatory recording 9.6 mm rains in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Sunday.
