LUCKNOW: To save the cadre from disillusionment following the departure of two young leaders – Jitin Prasada and Lalitesh Pati Tripathi – Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has decided to reach out to the workers at the grass roots.
Gandhi, who is also the in charge of Uttar Pradesh, has planned a visit Lucknow on Monday. Though the official programme is yet to be released, insiders said that she would reach by noon and was likely to stay for the night.
Her visit is being seen as part of a larger plan amid speculations that CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar and independent MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani are set to join the Congress soon.

Rumours are doing the rounds that the two may join the party on September 28, the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. There are chances that the two may visit Lucknow as well.
“The visit aims at infusing a sense of confidence among the cadre in whom the leadership has invested through trainings over the last two years. With a few months remaining for the 2022 polls and departure of the likes of Jitin and Lalitesh, the morale of the foot soldiers getting hit is the last thing we want. Her arrival will dispel doubts and help the put its best foot forward,” a senior leader said.
Sources said Priyanka was also coming to oversee applications for the 2022 elections and to review the progress of training sessions held recently.
Another point on her agenda is to assess possible impact on traditional caste equations among Dalits and Muslims in the state after the appointment of Charanjit Singh Channi as the CM of Punjab and inclusion of Kanhaiya and Jignesh in the Congress. Experts are of the view that the three names on the side of Congress during 2022 polls are bound to change the game.
