Chennai air customs seizes ganja and tablets containing psychotropic substance

CHENNAI: Chennai air customs has seized four postal parcels having 4,180 tablets containing psychotropic substance and three parcels of ganja from the foreign post office.
Customs officials seized two registered parcels booked from Ethiraj Salai in Chennai to the US by a Delhi-based person. The parcels, which were declared as documents, contained 1,980 tramadol hydrochloride tablets (100mg).
Two parcels booked from Chetpet in Chennai to the US by a Delhi-based person were examined on suspicion.
The parcels contained 1,200 zolpidem tartrate (IP 10 mg) tablets and 1,000 tramadol hydrochloride (100mg) tablets.
Tramadol hydrochloride and zolpidem tartrate (IP 10 mg) tablets fall in category of psychotropic substances as mentioned in the schedule to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, export of which are prohibited without any export authorisation issued by a competent authority.
In another case, officials recovered 194 gram of ganja from three postal parcels arrived from the US and Canada.
